Music, wine, views and…a braai? It’s all part of the @drumstrucktheshow experience at @silvermistvineyards. Drumstruck has performed across the globe to 5-star reviews for over a decade, and now calls Silvermist “home” this festive season. Start with a guided wine tasting (the @silvermistvineyards Sauvignon Blanc / Semillon blend was my surprise winner), before heading in for an experience than blends the history of African instruments, with an entertaining - and interactive - show. You asked for details on what I eat,

I do intermittent fasting (generally fasting 16 to 18 hours a day, you can look at the comments on my previous post for more details and answers about the why and how).

I don’t count calories or cut out food groups.

- Frame 1: a typical breakfast around 10h30 to break my fast: Greek yoghurt, berries and a crumbled protein bar
- Frame 2: black iced coffee, which I drink before 10h30, while I’m still fasting.
- Frame 3: a typical lunch option: pita with garlic cream cheese, hummus, aubergine, spiced lamb and herbs (inspired by @eleanorgwilkinson)
- Frame 4: another typical lunch option: smashed potato and trout salad (an @emthenutritionist recipe)

I’ll generally have breakfast (with a proper latte!), lunch like the above and then depending on how hungry I am, another full meal (similar to lunch), or a snack (protein smoothie, fruit, whatever I’m in the mood for) - before I close my eating window between 16h30 and 18h30.

A little health and fitness update.

My routine has been a little all over the place of late - I’ve been eating ok-ish, but haven’t exercised in two months or so - am feeling all the worse for it. So, today it was me, a @virginactivesa class - and some much-needed endorphins and sweat.

A bit of history (as these questions come up often): After losing around 16kg over the past few years (no magic pill, just making healthy food choices, being conscious of calories, and finding exercise I enjoy) - my weight loss stalled at the beginning of this year.

Between a doctor, dietician and functional doctor, we discovered I’m prone to insulin resistance (I have PCOS and a family history of Type 2 diebetes). I started medication to help my blood sugar calm down, and intermittent fasting - for the same reason. I started IF at the end of June; and have lost around 7kg since (generally fast between 16 to 18 hours a day).

And, here we are! I don’t cut out food groups, I no longer count calories, I just (generally) only eat between 10h30 and 16h30 - and, it works for me. I try to do strength training 3-4 times a week, and a 5km run once a week.

No secrets, no magic potions: I’ve spent years getting to know my body, its quirks, how it responds to certain things - and this is what works for me. Swipe through for a peek at the journey so far.

Shout out to this @miladyssa knit dress I bought on a complete whim online (well, I spotted it, loved it, wanted to try it on in person, but not available in store, so 4 weeks later eventually bought it online. Does that still qualify as a whim?) The knit has such a great weight, it falls beautifully and is so flattering - a little out of my comfort zone - quite figure-hugging and also…my arms are fully OUT THERE, but here’s to being brave. Could it be the start of a tradition of sorts? It’s the third time I’ve met with @whyiamnotskinny on my travels (twice her visiting me in Paris, and once me visiting her in Brussels) - and, my second time having the most phenomenal Afternoon Tea at @cedricgroletopera. A treat in itself, it was truly the best sharing it with someone who appreciates food as much as I do - and, for @whyiamnotskinny to experience the generosity, kindness and all-in-all perfect experience that is @cedricgroletopera. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

@galeriediorparis - just like the DIOR Ave Montaigne retail experience - is a lesson I pure art and class. The curation, the teams - absolutely flawless. Can’t recommend visiting highly enough (this was my second time).

A little catch up on the past few days - discovering great coffee in Paris (at last, hello @noir_coffeeshop), a visit to @atelierdeslumieres for an immersive Van Gogh experience, my favourite @sezane and blue skies peeking out.

Learning more about the wines of Alsace was always

Learning more about the wines of Alsace was always a priority during my time in Riquewihr. Apart from tastings in local wine bars, I also booked an Airbnb experience (cost around R670) to taste wines of Grand Cru Sonnenglanz (including Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris - three of the four noble Grands Crus varietals of the region, minus Muscat). The experience was fantastic - learning about what qualifies a wine as Grand Cru (not only premium wine, but can only be made from specific blocks of grapes, harvested by hand etc) - and, learning that all wines from Alsace are single varietal (no Riesling / Muscat blends, for instance).
We tasted three wines; had an incredible charcuterie and cheese platter, with phenomenal views across the town below. Highly recommend!
