I have spent much of the last year dedicated to furthering my knowledge and appreciation of white wines – and, I have a feeling that the next year might be dedicated to rosĆ©. And, what better way to start than with the newly-released Night Nectar Demi-Sec Rose from Krone?
It’s easy to place the blanket term of “rosĆ©” on a entire range of wine – that’s so much more complex than the term gives on. The Night Nectar Demi-Sec Rose is bottle-fermented and lees-matured, and a blend of the traditional Champagne varieties of Chardonnay (74%) and Pinot Noir (26%) .
Rose petal pink, this wine is fresh and fruity, with a quite the touch of sweetness. We first tried it as a pre-dinner aperitif, but found that demo-sec is better suited to brunch or as an outdoor wine – ideal for summer al fresco dining. It’s an easy drinking, fruity wine, with notes of strawberries and cranberries. I’d recommend keeping a few bottles in the fridge for when the weather feels just right.
This wine is available nationally in select liquor retailers and grocers at approximately R110 per bottle.
Note: I received a bottle of wine for review purposes. All views and images are my own.
