I admit, summer arrived with a bang this year.
From drizzle and grey skies one week, to mid-thirties the next – I was completely unprepared for the swift change in season, apparently bypassing spring completely and jumping straight into the heat of February.
Thankfully, we’ve had a few weeks of more normal weather to acclimatize to the season and prepare accordingly. HomeChoice asked me to put together a few of my must-haves of the season – from style to home – so, I’m excited to share my finds with you.
Sandals (available in rose gold and black)// Handbag (available in black, coral and nude)
Starting with a few style essentials, these sandals caught my eye first – nude, with a hint of rose gold, they’re neutral enough to go with most outfits and a flattering style for even the shortest of legs (i.e mine). I also love that they have a strap and are more stable on your foot – we have a holiday in Zanzibar coming up early next year, and I’m thinking these will be perfect for beach or ocean walking, on and off boats – without the risk of a tide whipping them from my foot.
Next, was a blush, sling bag from Pierre Cardin, big enough to fit in the essentials – perfect for summer exploring. Bonus: you can also tuck in the strap and use it as an elegant clutch bag.
Grey quilt // Standing fan // Picnic basket
Moving indoors, I also chose a few of my favourite summer items for home – starting with a quilt. Now, a little background – we’re all about bed accessories and linen for comfort: we have a winter duvet, summer duvet, faux fur winter throw and an assortment of sheets, which we mix and match throughout the year depending on the weather. We now added a quilt to the mix too – for when it’s just too chilly to sleep under a sheet alone, but not cool enough for a light, summer duvet. And yes, considering we spend at least 9 hours in bed each night, I put a lot of thought into the comfort of our bed and bedroom.
We chose a neutral, pale grey to work with all our linen, no matter the time of year. Top tip: It’s also perfect for impromptu Sunday naps, as we discovered this weekend. In terms of summer comfort, a standing fan is also an essential for me – not only keeping you cool, but helping keep mosquitoes at bay.
Then, because summer is as much about getting out as getting in – here’s a gentle nudge to make sure you have the perfect picnic basket for al fresco dining and sunset concerts.
