SVR Skincare for sensitive skins

Posted on

After being badly burned – almost literally – a few years ago by a bad facial peel, I have been incredibly careful of what I put on my skin: learning what works for me, and really not varying my routine too much.

If and when I do add something new to my regime, I research the brand and product thoroughly beforehand, read every review I can and then, do a patch test, to try and protect my skin from an allergic or negative reaction. So, when an email popped into my inbox about SVR Skincare, I was initially hesitant – but, was quickly won over once I started my research.

Created in 1962 by two French pharmacists, SVR aims to give skin targeted dermatological active ingredients – at the highest dose possible – without damaging or affecting skin’s tolerance. And, perhaps most importantly for me, all their products have been tested on, and specifically formulated for sensitive skin. The brand is extensive, with 11 ranges for particular skin concerns and body areas – I was sent a few products to try: here are my thoughts.

Sensifine Crème

From the Sensifine range, dedicated to sensitive and intolerant skins, this cream can be used both morning and night, boasting an ultra-minimalist formula, that is 100% safe for intolerant sensitive skin. This cream contains no fragrance, parabens, alcohol, preservatives, silicone, colorant, surfactant, mineral oil, paraffin, lanolin or allergens – so, if you’re anywhere as paranoid about your skin as I am, this is the cream for you. This cream soothes and moisturises, and the convenient 40ml tube (retails for R360)  made it perfect for travelling, and has become my go-to, particularly for weekends away and our recent holiday to Zanzibar. It’s a gel-cream, so absorbs easily, but still offers enough moisture to keep my combination – dry skin happy.

Topialyse Gel Levante

Next, I’ve been trying the Topialyse Gel Levante, a range dedicated to the treatment of dry and very dry skins – something I’ve been battling with recently, which was quite the change of pace as I’m usually quite oily. It’s a gentle, creamy foam cleanser, that’s soap and paraben-free – recommended by dermatologists and paediatricians, so it’s suitable for the whole family, top-to-toe. It’s gently fragranced (subtle, but very pleasant) and cleanses very thoroughly, without drying skin – and, a product I will buy again – R200 for 200ml

Liftiane Eye & Lip Contour Anti-Aging Cream

From the anti-aging range, the Liftiane Eye & Lip Contour Anti-Aging Cream combines pure Resveratrol and a duo of hyaluronic acids, to help banish undereye puffiness, wrinkles and dark circles, as well as lines around your lips. I used it a few times, and it felt lovely – but, as my undereye area is in pretty good condition, I can’t comment on its affect too much.

Sun Secure Blur

Finally, the Sun Secure Blur – SPF50+, it protects against UVA, UVB, visible light and infrared and can also be used for the whole family. It’s water, sweat and rub resistant, it was perfect for our time in Zanzibar, and the reason my face was the only part of me that didn’t get spectacularly sunburnt at least once. Apart from the great protection it offers, it also blurs imperfections and evens complexion, making it a perfect primer for under make up too – as it’s quickly absorbed and non-greasy. A little goes a long way, but it’s definitely a product I’ll repurchase when finished.
